Best SMS Platforms and APIs 2026: Business Texting Compared
We rank SMS APIs and business text messaging platforms using only facts from their own sites: the price of one outbound SMS to a US number as written on the pricing page, the lowest fixed monthly amount you must pay to send texts, a free trial or test credit, two-way messaging, MMS, WhatsApp on the same platform, scheduled sending, delivery reports, a public API, help with US 10DLC registration, automatic handling of STOP opt-outs, SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001, a GDPR data processing agreement, the year the service started and a public status page. Every fact links to an official page with a check date. We do not test delivery speed or deliverability ourselves and do not use reviews or user scores, and paid placements never change the Score.

These services are known to us, but we haven't verified enough facts to rank them fairly.

Sites marked as closed refuse automated reading (403 error, captcha or a robots.txt ban). We don't bypass such protection, so we can't verify their facts and they are not ranked. This says nothing about their quality. A company can send links to its official pages to [email protected].
How we calculate the Score
30%
Price
The price in US cents of one outbound SMS (one segment) to a US number, exactly as written on the official pricing page, at the first tier with no commitment: 0¢ scores 100, 6¢ or more scores 0 (weight 2). Carrier pass-through fees are not added, volume discounts are ignored, and a price shown only as an overage or extra-credit rate is not used; we never divide a plan fee by the messages it includes. Also the lowest fixed amount per month you must pay to send SMS with monthly billing — a plan fee or a stated monthly minimum spend: $0 when the page says you pay as you go, $100 or more scores 0 (weight 2). Phone number rental and carrier registration fees are not counted. A free trial or free test credit adds weight 1. Prices shown only after a script runs, in a currency or for a country chosen by our visitor location, or only for annual billing are left empty.
30%
Messaging features
Whether the platform lets you receive and answer replies (two-way SMS, weight 2), send MMS (weight 1), send WhatsApp Business messages from the same account (weight 1), schedule texts for later (weight 1), get a delivery status for each message (weight 1) and use a documented public API (weight 1). Beta and preview features do not count. The fact shows that a feature exists, not that the cheapest plan has it: check the note under each fact.
25%
Compliance and security
Whether the vendor registers or helps you register a US 10DLC brand and campaign (weight 2), automatically handles STOP and other opt-out replies (weight 1), states a SOC 2 report (weight 1) and ISO/IEC 27001 certification (weight 1) for its own service, not only for its cloud provider, and offers a data processing agreement under GDPR (weight 1). We record the vendor's statement; we do not audit it.
15%
Track record
How long the service has been running: 20 years or more scores 100 (weight 2), and whether it publishes a public status page with incidents (weight 1).
How to choose an SMS platform
Count every fee, not only the rate
Add carrier pass-through fees, phone number rental, 10DLC registration and any monthly minimum to the per-message rate. For small volumes the fixed fees often matter more than the rate.
Pick the sender type first
Local 10-digit numbers need 10DLC registration, toll-free numbers need verification, and short codes take weeks and cost hundreds of dollars a month. Check which types the platform supports in your countries.
Make opt-out automatic
Customers must be able to reply STOP and never get another text. Prefer a platform that suppresses opted-out numbers for you and keeps consent records.
Test replies and delivery reports
During the trial, send to your own phone, reply to it and check that the delivery status and the reply reach your app or inbox. This is the part that breaks most often in production.
Frequently asked questions
Which SMS platform is best?
The platform in first place has the highest Score under our open method, but the Score does not measure delivery speed or how well a tool fits your work. Developers usually want a per-message API; marketing teams often prefer an app with plans, contact lists and a shared inbox.
Why do you compare the price of one SMS to the US?
Prices depend on the destination country, the sender type and the volume, so one destination makes them comparable. The US is the market most vendors publish. We take the rate written on the pricing page for the first tier and do not add carrier fees, which every vendor passes on separately.
Why is the per-SMS price empty for some platforms?
Some pricing pages fill in the rate only after a script runs or show the rates for the country of our visitor IP, and most texting apps sell monthly bundles of credits without a per-message price. We do not divide a plan fee by its messages, so the fact stays empty and the monthly payment is compared instead.
What is 10DLC and why does it count?
US carriers require businesses that text from ordinary 10-digit numbers to register their brand and each messaging campaign. Unregistered traffic is filtered or blocked. A platform that files the registration for you or guides you through it saves weeks at the start.
What does an empty fact mean?
We could not confirm it on an official page, sometimes because the vendor's site refused automated access. An empty fact scores zero and lowers data completeness. A platform with too little data is not ranked.
