International Money Transfer Services 2026: Independent Ranking
We compare international money transfer services on verifiable facts only: what the same reference transfer costs, whether the service discloses how it earns on the exchange rate, how many countries you can send to, whether cash pickup and mobile wallet delivery are available, whether delivery within minutes is offered and whether a financial regulator licenses the service. Every fact links to an official page and carries the date we checked it. This is not financial advice: fees and rates change daily, so check the final amount with the service before you send. Paid placements never change the Score.

How we calculate the Score
30%
Cost
The fee for a reference transfer of 1,000 USD from the US to Mexico, as shown on the service's own page or calculator: the cheapest regular price, excluding new-customer offers. $0 scores 100, $20 or more scores 0. Plus whether the service's site discloses whether it earns on the exchange rate (a markup or none), and whether it uses the mid-market rate with no markup. The fee does not include any exchange-rate markup, so look at both.
20%
Reach
How many countries you can send to according to the official site (logarithmic, full score from 200), and whether cash pickup at partner locations and delivery to mobile wallets are available.
15%
Speed
Whether the official site offers delivery within minutes or on the same day for at least some destinations and delivery methods.
25%
Safety
A licence or registration with a financial regulator stated on the official site (for example FinCEN and US state licences, the FCA, the Central Bank of Ireland), company age (20+ years scores in full) and public status: the company or its parent group is listed on a stock exchange and publishes audited annual reports.
10%
User reputation
App Store rating (US). 3★ scores 0, 5★ scores 100; with few ratings the score is reduced (full weight from 1,000,000 ratings).
How to choose a money transfer service
Compare the amount received, not the fee
The total cost of a transfer is the fee plus any markup in the exchange rate. Check how much the recipient gets in their currency with several services at the same moment.
Mind the payment and delivery method
Paying by card, especially a credit card, usually costs more than paying from a bank account. Cash pickup, bank deposit and mobile wallet delivery are also priced differently and arrive at different speeds.
Check the licence
Use services whose site states a regulator licence, and verify the number in the official register. Do not send money through middlemen found on social media or messengers.
Watch out for scams
Do not send money to people you have not met in person, to "sellers" asking for prepayment, to "support teams" or to anyone rushing you. A transfer usually cannot be reversed once it has been paid out.
Double-check recipient details and keep the receipt
A mistake in the name, account or phone number can delay a transfer. Keep the transfer number and confirmation: you will need them to track the transfer or file a complaint.
Frequently asked questions
Which money transfer service is the best?
The service ranked first has the highest Score under our open methodology. But the real cost of a transfer depends on the route, amount, payment method and delivery method, so for your case compare the amount the recipient gets across several services on the day you send.
Why do you compare fees on a single route?
Every service prices each country pair, amount and payment method differently. To keep the comparison fair we use one reference transfer, 1,000 USD from the US to Mexico, and the figure the service itself shows on its page or calculator. If the official page shows no figure for the reference amount, the fact stays empty. On other routes the picture may differ.
What is an exchange-rate markup and the mid-market rate?
The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices of a currency on the interbank market. Many services convert at a less favourable rate and earn on the difference: that is the markup. So a "no fee" transfer can cost more than one with a fee. Compare the amount the recipient will receive.
How can I check that a money transfer service is legitimate?
Check the licence or registration in your country's public regulator register: in the US, NMLS Consumer Access and the FinCEN MSB registry; in the UK, the FCA register; in the EU, the national central bank registers. The licence number is usually shown at the bottom of the official site.
How do you rank money transfer services?
On facts from official pages, each with a link and a check date, and a fixed, public formula. We take prices only as the service itself shows them, without converting currencies. The ranking is reproducible and cannot be bought.
