Best URL Shorteners and Link Management Tools 2026

We rank URL shorteners and link management tools using only facts from their own sites: the monthly price of the cheapest paid plan with monthly billing, whether there is a permanent free plan and whether it lets you use your own branded domain, editing a link's destination after it is shared, link expiry, password-protected links, a UTM builder, QR codes, a link-in-bio page, bulk shortening, a public API, single sign-on, an independent security certification (SOC 2 or ISO 27001), a published GDPR commitment, a public status page and the year the service started. Every fact links to an official page with a check date. We do not measure redirect speed or uptime ourselves and do not use reviews or user scores, and paid placements never change the Score.

Not ranked yet: not enough verified data

These services are known to us, but we haven't verified enough facts to rank them fairly.

Sites marked as closed refuse automated reading (403 error, captcha or a robots.txt ban). We don't bypass such protection, so we can't verify their facts and they are not ranked. This says nothing about their quality. A company can send links to its official pages to [email protected].

How we calculate the Score

30%

Price and free plan

Monthly list price in USD of the cheapest paid plan with monthly billing: $0 scores 100, $50 or more scores 0 (weight 3). Annual-billing prices and promotions are ignored. If the official pricing page shows the monthly price only after a script runs, only in hidden page data, only as an annual price, or in a currency chosen by our visitor location, the fact stays empty. A single euro price list of a European vendor is converted at the ECB rate. Also a permanent free plan (weight 1) and whether the free plan lets you use your own custom domain (weight 1); a free trial does not count.

30%

Link features

Changing a link's destination after it is shared (weight 1), link expiry by date or click count (weight 1), password-protected links (weight 1), a UTM builder or UTM templates (weight 1), QR codes for short links (weight 1), a link-in-bio page (weight 1), bulk shortening from a file or through a bulk API call (weight 1) and a documented public API (weight 1). A fact shows that the feature exists on some plan, not that the cheapest plan has it.

25%

Security and privacy

An independent security certification, SOC 2 or ISO/IEC 27001, stated on the vendor's site (weight 1); a published GDPR compliance statement or processor commitments (weight 1); single sign-on through SAML or another identity provider (weight 1). Two-factor authentication is shown on the service page but not scored, because most vendors do not say whether they offer it.

15%

Track record

How long the service has been running: 15 years or more scores 100 (weight 2), and a public status page with the current state of the service (weight 1). A short link keeps working only as long as the service does, so age and openness about outages matter.

How we rank

How to choose a URL shortener

  1. Count your links and clicks

Free and entry plans limit new links a month, and some also limit tracked clicks or keep statistics for only 30 days. Estimate how many links you create and how long you need the history before comparing prices.

  2. Use your own domain

A branded domain makes links look safe and lets you move to another service without breaking printed QR codes and old posts. Check how many custom domains the plan includes and whether HTTPS is set up for you.

  3. Make sure links can be edited

Printed QR codes and links in sent emails cannot be changed. Choose a service that lets you change the destination later, and check whether edits are limited per month on cheaper plans.

  4. Check access and data

For a team, look for separate users, single sign-on and two-factor authentication. If you track visitors from the EU, read the vendor's GDPR terms, and export your links from time to time so you are not locked in.

Frequently asked questions

Which URL shortener is best?

The service in first place has the highest Score under our open method, but the Score does not measure redirect speed, uptime or how often a domain lands on spam lists. Decide whether you need your own domain, how many links you create a month and which features you will really use, then try the free plan or trial.

How do you compare prices?

We take the cheapest paid plan with monthly billing, in US dollars, as shown in the text of the vendor's official pricing page. Annual billing is usually cheaper; the note on each service's page shows the annual price when we saw it. A single euro price list of a European vendor is converted at the ECB rate of the day before the check.

Why is the price empty for some well-known services?

Some pricing pages open on annual billing and draw the monthly price only with a script, keep it in hidden page data, or are closed to automated readers by robots.txt. We record only what is readable on the official page and do not guess, so the fact stays empty and the service loses those points. That is why Bitly and Dub rank lower than their features suggest.

Why use my own domain for short links?

Links on your own domain look trustworthy, carry your brand and keep working if you move to another shortener, because you can point the domain to the new service. Links on a shared domain belong to the vendor: if the account closes or the vendor shuts down, they can stop working.

Do you test the services ourselves?

No. Redirect speed and uptime depend on your audience's location and the vendor's network, and a fair test is hard to repeat. We use only facts that anyone can check on the vendor's own pages, each with a link and a check date.
