We compare tour operators that sell package holidays only on facts anyone can check in the official register and on the operators' own websites: whether the company is listed in the national register of tour operators, whether your money is protected if it goes bust (financial guarantee, guarantee fund or insolvency scheme), how long it has been in business, whether it names its legal entity, address and booking terms, and whether a holiday can be booked and paid for online. Every fact links to its source with the date we checked it. Customer reviews, hotel ratings and media rankings are not used, and we do not compare prices. The ranking is not advice to choose a particular operator. Places are not for sale.

The company in first place has the highest Score under our open methodology. This is not advice: look at what matters to you. Where does the data come from?
From official registers (the Federal Register of Tour Operators in Russia, the register of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism in Belarus, the state register in Kazakhstan, CEOT in Poland, the CAA ATOL register in the UK, the commercial register in Germany) and from the operators' official websites. Every fact links to its page with the date we checked it.
Why don't you use reviews or hotel ratings?
Reviews cannot be verified reliably, and the number of complaints grows with the number of travellers. Hotel ratings describe hotels, not the operator. So the Score uses only what is visible in the official register and on the operator's own website.
What is the difference between a tour operator and a travel agent?
A tour operator puts the package together and is responsible to you for it; a travel agent sells packages of one or several operators. The register, the financial guarantee and the insolvency protection belong to the operator, so check the operator named in your contract.
Can a company buy a place in the ranking?
No. The Score is calculated with the same formula for every company. Paid placements, if they ever appear, will be a separate block labelled as advertising and never affect the Score.
