Best Website Uptime Monitoring Services 2026: Compared
We rank website uptime monitoring services and status page tools using only facts from their own sites: the monthly price of the cheapest paid plan with monthly billing, whether there is a permanent free plan and how many monitors it includes, the shortest check interval you can buy on a self-serve plan, how many monitors the entry paid plan includes, how many check locations the vendor names, SSL certificate and domain expiry monitoring, public status pages, SMS, phone call and Slack alerts, a public API, two-factor authentication, single sign-on and the year the company started. Every fact links to an official page with a check date. We do not measure how reliable the checks are ourselves and do not use reviews or user scores, and paid placements never change the Score.

How we calculate the Score
30%
Price
Monthly list price in USD of the cheapest paid plan with monthly billing: $0 scores 100, $50 or more scores 0 (weight 3). Annual-billing prices and promotions are ignored; per-monitor or per-check pricing without a fixed plan is not used. If the official pricing page shows the monthly price only after a script runs, only as an image, or in a currency chosen by our visitor location, the fact stays empty. A single euro price list of a European vendor is converted at the ECB rate. Also a permanent free plan (weight 1) and the number of monitors it includes, on a logarithmic scale up to 50 (weight 1); a free trial does not count.
30%
Monitoring
The shortest check interval available on a plan you can buy without talking to sales, on a straight line where 120 seconds or more scores 0, 60 seconds scores 50 and 30 seconds scores 75 (weight 2); how many monitors the cheapest paid plan includes, on a logarithmic scale up to 100 (weight 1); how many check locations or regions the vendor names, on a logarithmic scale up to 100 (weight 1); SSL certificate monitoring (weight 1) and domain expiry monitoring (weight 1). A fact shows that the feature exists on some plan, not that the cheapest plan has it.
25%
Alerts and status pages
Public status pages (weight 1), SMS alerts (weight 1), phone call alerts (weight 1), Slack alerts (weight 1) and a documented public API (weight 1). Included SMS and call credits differ by plan; check the limits on the plan you choose.
15%
Account security and track record
Two-factor authentication for user accounts (weight 1), single sign-on through SAML or another identity provider (weight 1) and how long the service has been running: 15 years or more scores 100 (weight 1).
How to choose an uptime monitoring service
Count your monitors
Each website, API endpoint, server port or cron job usually takes one monitor. Count what you need to watch now and in a year, then compare it with the monitor limit of the plan, not just the price.
Pick the check interval you need
For a hobby site a 5-minute check is enough. For a shop or an API that customers depend on, look for 1-minute or 30-second checks and confirmation from a second location to avoid false alarms.
Decide how you want to be alerted
Email and chat alerts are easy to miss at night. If downtime costs you money, check whether SMS and phone calls are included or paid with credits, and whether the service supports on-call schedules.
Plan your status page and access
A public status page saves support time during an outage. Check whether you can use your own domain, and for a team look for two-factor authentication, single sign-on and separate user roles.
Frequently asked questions
Which uptime monitoring service is best?
The service in first place has the highest Score under our open method, but the Score does not measure how reliable or accurate the checks are. Decide how often a site must be checked, how many sites you watch and how you want to be woken up, then try the free plan or trial on your own sites.
How do you compare prices?
We take the cheapest paid plan with monthly billing, in US dollars, as shown in the text of the vendor's official pricing page. Annual billing is usually cheaper; the note on each service's page shows the annual price when we saw it. Pricing per monitor or per check without a fixed plan is not used, and a single euro price list of a European vendor is converted at the ECB rate of the day before the check.
Why is the price empty for some well-known services?
Some pricing pages show the monthly price only after a script runs, draw it as an image, show only the annual price, or show prices in the currency of the visitor's country. We record only what is readable on the official page and do not guess, so the fact stays empty and lowers data completeness. That is why some popular services rank lower or are listed outside the ranking.
What does the check interval mean?
It is how often the service requests your site. With a 5-minute interval an outage can go unnoticed for up to 5 minutes; with 30 seconds you hear about it almost at once. We score the shortest interval you can buy without talking to sales; free plans usually check every 2 to 5 minutes.
Do you test the services ourselves?
No. Detection speed and false alarms depend on your site, network and settings, and a fair test is hard to repeat. We use only facts that anyone can check on the vendor's own pages, each with a link and a check date.
