Gym and fitness club chains in Germany 2026: a ranking built on verified facts
A ranking of German gym chains and franchises, built only on verifiable facts from their official pages: whether a contract with no minimum term is offered, the notice needed to cancel, pausing a membership, a published monthly price and day passes, the number of studios they state, classes included, 24-hour opening, pools, the App Store rating of their app, whether the imprint names the company with its commercial register number, and the year the chain started. In a franchise each studio sets its own terms. Every fact links to its source with the date we checked it. This is not advice to join a particular chain. Places are not for sale.

How we calculate the Score
35%
Contract and leaving
Whether you can join with no commitment beyond one month, how many days of notice you must give to end a rolling membership (fewer is better), and whether you can freeze a membership.
30%
Clubs and what is included
How many clubs the chain states in the country, whether group classes are included in the membership, whether most clubs open 24 hours, whether at least some clubs have a pool, and the App Store rating of its app.
20%
Reliability
Whether the website names the operating company with its registration number, and the year the chain started.
15%
Price openness
Whether a monthly price can be seen on the website without leaving your phone number, and whether you can buy a single day pass.
How to choose a gym
Try it first
Visit at the time you actually plan to train. A day pass or trial shows you how busy the club is before you sign anything.
Read the minimum term
Check how long you are committed, whether the contract renews by itself and on what terms. A low monthly price often applies only to a long contract.
Check how to leave
Find the notice period and how notice must be given: online, by post or in person. Keep proof that you sent it.
Count the full cost
Add joining fees, card or wristband fees, service packages and paid classes to the monthly price.
Ask about a freeze
Check how long you can freeze, what it costs and whether the contract is extended by that time.
Check who you sign with
In a franchise each club may be a separate company, and prices and rules can differ. The name on the contract is the one your claim goes to.
Frequently asked questions
Which gym chain is the best?
The chain in first place has the highest Score under our open methodology. This is not advice: look at what matters to you. If you are not sure you will keep going, check Contract and leaving; if you want classes or a pool, check Clubs and what is included. A nearby club usually matters more than any ranking.
Where does the data come from?
From the chains' own official pages (membership, terms, FAQ, contacts or imprint) and from the App Store. Every fact links to its page with the date we checked it.
Why don't you compare prices?
Prices depend on the club, the plan and the promotion of the week. So the Score only checks whether a price is published. The price we show is for a plan with no long commitment, where the website states one.
Why are reviews and equipment not scored?
Reviews cannot be verified reliably, and equipment differs from club to club. The Score uses only rules that a chain publishes itself and that anyone can check.
Can a chain buy a place in the ranking?
No. The Score is calculated with the same formula for every chain. Paid placements, if they ever appear, will be a separate block labelled as advertising and never affect the Score.
