Digital marketing agencies in Germany 2026: a fact-based ranking
A ranking of online marketing agencies headquartered in Germany, based only on facts from official sites and the member list of the digital industry association BVDW. We look at case studies with named clients, measured results, the commercial register number from the Impressum, published prices, year founded and stated headcount. BVDW membership counts only if the agency appears on the association's own list; a BVDW quality certificate is a separate matter and is not scored. The ranking does not assess campaign quality. Compare Scores only within Germany. The Score is not for sale; paid placements, if any appear, will be a separate labelled block.

How we calculate the Score
35%
Proof of work
At least three public case studies naming the client, and at least one case study with measured results. An anonymous "large retailer" does not count as a named client. Results are as published by the agency.
30%
Transparency
Whether a legal entity of this country is given with its registration number, prices are published, a privacy policy exists, and how many of four contact channels are listed: phone, email, form, address.
15%
Confirmed credentials
Partner status confirmed in the vendor's own directory, and membership confirmed on the trade association's own site. A badge on the agency's site alone does not count. Several vendor directories cannot be read automatically, so this fact often shows as not verified.
20%
Experience and scale
Year founded (scale up to 20 years) and stated headcount (logarithmic scale up to 1,000 people). Figures are as stated; for a group they may cover all offices.
How to choose a marketing agency
Check the legal entity
Find the name and registration number and compare them with the state register. The contract should name the same company.
Check the partner status yourself
Search the agency's name in the vendor's directory, such as Google Partners or the HubSpot marketplace. Status can lapse, and a badge may stay on a site.
Ask how results were measured
Ask for the period, the baseline and the source of the numbers, and for contacts at a client from a similar business.
Keep the accounts in your name
Advertising accounts, analytics and domains should belong to you. Agree in the contract on the fee, the ad budget and who may spend it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check a marketing agency in Germany?
Look up the company in the commercial register through the common register portal of the federal states. The Impressum on its website must give the register entry.
Who owns the campaigns and creative?
Under German copyright law, copyright itself cannot be transferred; the client receives rights of use. The contract should state what they cover and for how long.
What should the contract say about personal data?
If the agency processes customer data on your behalf, GDPR requires a data processing agreement. Ask which tools and subcontractors have access.
