How it is calculated
Payments = turnover ÷ average payment, rounded up. Fees per month = turnover × rate % + payments × fixed fee + monthly fee. Effective rate = fees ÷ turnover × 100.
Rates are the standard published online card prices from our ranking, for domestic cards of the market the price list is for; where that is not the US, the table names the market. International and premium cards, currency conversion, chargebacks, refunds and taxes are not included, and large merchants often get custom pricing.
We know whether a processor charges a monthly fee but not always how much, so processors with a monthly fee are not compared: all shown here have none. Fixed fees in other currencies are converted to USD at the rate noted on the company page.
This is an estimate, not financial advice: check the processor's current price list before signing up.
Frequently asked questions
What is the effective rate?
All fees for the month as a share of turnover. With small payments the fixed fee weighs more: on a USD 5 payment a USD 0.30 fixed fee alone adds 6%. Compare the effective rate for your average payment, not the headline percentage.
Why are some processors missing?
The table shows processors with a published standard card rate and fixed fee and no monthly fee. Processors with custom pricing (for example, interchange++) or a monthly fee of unknown size are in the ranking but not in the table.
Why does the table name a country for some processors?
Their price list is for one market, such as India or the EEA, and for local cards; cards from other countries usually cost more. Rates without a note are a US price list or a single global price.
Is this financial advice?
No. It is an estimate from public price lists; the final price depends on your country, cards, risk profile and contract. Each rate links to the official page from the processor's page in our ranking.
