How it is calculated

Renewals = .com renewal price per year × years × domains. With transfer = domains × (transfer price + renewal price × (years − 1)): a .com transfer adds one year of registration, so the first year is paid by the transfer.

The first-year promo price is left out on purpose: it is paid once and is often far below the renewal, while the renewal is paid every year after. Renewals show the real cost of keeping a domain — that is also how our ranking scores price.

Prices are the standard .com prices from each registrar's official page, in USD (converted where needed), without taxes, coupons, bulk discounts or paid add-ons. Registrars without a published price in our data are not in the table.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the first-year price not included?

Registrars often sell the first year cheaply and earn it back on renewals. The promo is paid once and renewals every year, so over several years the renewal price decides the cost. Our ranking compares renewal prices for the same reason.

Does a transfer extend my domain?

For .com, a transfer to another registrar normally adds one year to the registration, which is why the total with transfer counts the transfer as the first year. Check the registrar's transfer terms before you move.

Are bulk discounts included?

No. Many registrars lower prices for large portfolios or with coupons; the table uses standard list prices, the same for one domain or a hundred.

Where do the prices come from?

From each registrar's official price page; the link and the check date are on the registrar's page in our ranking. The calculator updates together with the ranking.
