Solar panel payback 2026 — Poland: calculator
Calculated in Polish złoty. By default the electricity price is 1.2724 PLN per kWh — Eurostat's average household price in Poland for the first half of 2026 (2,500–4,999 kWh a year, taxes and levies included, provisional), and the yield is 1,089 kWh per kWp a year (World Bank, Poland average). The default cost of 4,500 PLN per kWp is only an example — enter the installer's quote.
The result is an estimate, not financial or legal advice. Check the exact terms with the company.

How it is calculated
Production in the first year = size (kWp) × specific yield (kWh per kWp a year). The yield is the country average of the World Bank Global Photovoltaic Power Potential study (PVOUT, kWh/kWp/day × 365). It describes well-oriented, optimally tilted panels: a shaded or steep roof, or one facing east or west, produces less.
Saving a year = production × (self-consumption % × electricity price + (1 − self-consumption %) × export price). Power you use while the panels generate replaces power bought at the full tariff; the surplus is sent to the grid and earns the export price (0 if nobody pays for it).
Simple payback = cost ÷ first-year saving, without interest or tariff changes. Net saving over 25 years = the sum of 25 yearly savings, each 0.5% lower than the previous one (an assumed panel degradation), minus the cost. Maintenance, inverter replacement, financing and subsidies are not included — subtract a subsidy from the cost yourself.
Frequently asked questions
How is exported power paid for in Poland?
Under net-billing the value of power sent to the grid is credited to the prosumer account kept by the supplier (the prosumer deposit). The deposit pays only for electricity bought from that supplier and can be used for 12 months; an unused part is refunded as an overpayment of up to 20% of the value of the power exported in that month (gov.pl). The value depends on the market price, so the calculator does not set a default — enter it in the export field if you know it.
Which electricity price does the calculator use for Poland?
1.2724 PLN per kWh — the Eurostat average price for households using 2,500–4,999 kWh a year in the first half of 2026, with all taxes and levies (provisional). Your bill may differ by tariff and distributor — enter your own price.
How much does a solar panel produce in Poland?
On average about 1,089 kWh a year per kWp of optimally tilted panels (World Bank Global Photovoltaic Power Potential study: 2.98 kWh per kWp a day).
