Internet providers in the UK 2026: home broadband ranking

A ranking of UK home broadband providers based only on facts from official sites. Some providers serve only part of the country. We take the cheapest broadband-only tariff with a stated speed of at least 100 Mbit/s at the price during the standard contract and show it as a percentage of the country reference price of 24 GBP a month (the median of collected prices at launch); the original price, including any stepped rises, is on the card. The UK has no broadband licences, so we count a provider's stated membership of an Ofcom-approved dispute scheme. Sites of some large providers are closed to automated checks, so they may be missing; that is no judgement of their service. Speed is advertised; we use no tests or reviews. Compare Scores only within the UK. Score is not for sale; paid placements, if any appear, will be a separate labelled block.

Not ranked yet: not enough verified data

These services are known to us, but we haven't verified enough facts to rank them fairly.

How we calculate the Score

30%

Network

Whether the provider sells fibre to the home or building to residential customers, the highest advertised download speed on a published tariff (log scale up to 10 Gbit/s), and how many of three technologies it offers: fibre, cable, DSL. Speed is advertised, not measured.

35%

Cost

Monthly price with tax of the cheapest internet-only tariff with a stated speed of at least 100 Mbit/s, at the standard price after any promotion, as a percentage of the country's reference price (100% equals the reference; the score falls from 50% to 200%). The local-currency price is shown next to it and is comparable only within the country. We also count whether a tariff with no minimum term exists and whether standard installation is free without a temporary offer.

20%

Service

Whether home-internet customers get an app or online account, and whether general support with a live person runs around the clock every day. A faults-only line or a bot does not count.

15%

Transparency

Whether the provider's legal entity holds a telecom regulator's licence or registration, per the register or a number on its official site (the UK has no licences, so there we count membership of an Ofcom-approved dispute scheme), and whether contract terms are published without logging in.

How we rank

How to choose an internet provider

  1. Start with your address

Technology and price depend on the building: check your address on the provider's site to see what you can actually get. Fibre to the home is usually steadier than DSL but is not available everywhere.

  2. Count the price after the promotion

Look at the price once the discount ends and across the whole contract. Add installation, router rental and any mandatory extras.

  3. Check the term and how to leave

Read whether there is a minimum term, what early exit costs, and whether the price can rise during the contract.

  4. Don't pay for speed you won't use

Advertised speed is not guaranteed. For video and home working 100–300 Mbit/s is usually enough; what matters more is whether your router and home Wi-Fi can keep up.

Frequently asked questions

What does first place mean?

The first-placed provider has the highest Score under our open method among providers in that country. It does not mean it can connect your home or will be faster for you: check your address on the provider's site.

Why is the price shown as a percentage?

Prices cannot be compared directly across countries. So we divide the tariff price by the country's reference price: 100% equals the reference, 80% is a fifth cheaper. The original local-currency price is on the provider's card.

Why are there no speed tests?

We show only the advertised speed from published tariffs. Real speed depends on your address, equipment and time of day, and we would use measurements only if the regulator publishes them.

Why do some providers have no data?

If a fact is not on the official site, or the site is closed to automated checks, we show "Not verified" and award no points. Prices are often behind an address check, so that field can be empty.

Can I compare providers from different countries?

No. The reference price, the regulator and the set of providers differ by country, so the Score only makes sense within one country.
